The Turners and Schmidths, Southbow Landing’s first residents, have bought homes side by side in Cochrane’s newest community.
It’s a unique setup, but one that came about naturally.
For Mary and Paul Turner, Cochrane has always felt like home. “My husband, Paul, and I moved to Cochrane 35 years ago and we’ve loved this little town ever since,” says Mary. “We raised our two children, Kylie and her brother, here. Now Kylie and her husband Jeremy Schmidth are raising their own kids in Cochrane and we get to be part of it everyday.”
The Turners first heard about Southbow Landing through word of mouth, specifically, from people who had purchased homes from Daytona Homes. “Everyone spoke so highly of their experience,” says Mary. “So we checked out where Daytona was building, and when we saw Southbow Landing, it was everything we wanted. The elevated lots, the mountain views, and especially the access to Highway 1. My husband works in Calgary, so that was a big one for us.”
They Found the Right Fit!
For Kylie and Jeremy, it also came down to the right fit for their growing family, which is why they opted to purchase the adjoining duplex that belongs to Kylie’s parents. “We chose a duplex with over 2,000 square feet,” says Kylie. “It has three bedrooms and a bonus room, which is perfect for our kids. The two youngest are close in age and share a room, and we’re planning to eventually move our oldest into the legal basement suite.”
Until then, the basement suite is being rented out. “It was already a finished spec home and done so well,” says Jeremy. “We didn’t have to make any major customizations. Megan and Josh from Daytona had picked everything and they nailed it. They really simplified the process for us.”
Space for Play
With two connected backyards and three energetic kids, the outdoor plans are already in motion. “Jeremy’s planning to build a hockey rink for the kids in the winter,” says Kylie. “It’ll be awesome to have that space where they can just run out the door and play.”
Rooted in Cochrane
Their roots in Cochrane go deep. In addition to growing up here, she and Jeremy, who is originally from Calgary, bought their first home together in town back in 2008. “Cochrane has always felt like home, calm, welcoming, and full of great memories,” says Kylie. “The smaller schools, the community feel, it’s just a better place to raise kids.”
Growing in Southbow Landing
Now, in Southbow Landing, they’re settling into a new chapter with even more to look forward to. “The walking paths are coming soon, and there’s a playground going in right across the street,” says Kylie. “Our kids will be out there all the time.”
“And we’re so excited to meet our new neighbours,” adds Mary. “We’ve always loved Cochrane. It’s the kind of place that just stays with you, and now we get to watch our grandkids grow up here, too.”
With scenic views and thoughtful design that also includes a future commercial area and space for families to grow side by side, Southbow Landing is more than just a new community; it’s a place where lifelong roots take hold and the next chapter begins.
